Food Trucks Paired With Local Craft Beer: A Philadelphia First

Flavors and Fermentations to benefit City of Hope’s Cancer Walk

What is your idea of food and drink heaven? Is it a glass of Victory Ale alongside a Dump N Roll’s bacon turkey cheeseburger tempura wonton?  How about a frothy 1906 with Gigi’s Caribbean Soul food surprise? These delicious bites and more will be featured at the finish of the City Of Hope’s Women’s Cancer Walk.  The food truck and beer pairing competition, a Brotherly Love first, will be offered to participants beginning at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 13, 2015.  Registration opens at 9 AM.

The walk starts on Rutgers Campus in New Jersey and continues over the Ben Franklin Bridge.  The 3 mile trek winds up in Old City Philadelphia at the historic Arch Street Meeting house.  In its 17th year, this classic Philadelphia event will simultaneously shine a spotlight on advancements in cancer research and celebrate local snacks and suds.  Participants will vote for their favorite mouth watering mobile eatery concoction and the accompanying spirit. Winning truck receives an all expenses paid trip to St. Lucia. As if beer and food trucks aren’t enough, walkers will also be treated to purple cupcakes, a prosecco tasting, and other snacks!

This year’s walk will be dedicated to the memory of Rose Julien who lost her courageous battle with cancer ten months ago.  She was an inspiration to all and led her team the “Rosebuds” on foot even when very ill.  Her husband Joe remarked that Rose “… will be sorely missed but hopefully her fearless attitude will be an example to others undergoing the same challenges.”

The registration fee of $25 entitles you to all food and drink, plus live entertainment including violinists, the Fralinger String Band, cheerleaders, and a DJ! Also included is a swag bag, event t-shirt, giveaways from Arm and Hammer’s Truly Radiant toothpaste, and much much more!

COH’s walk has it all, a day of exercise, a unique culinary experience, upbeat live music, and the chance to save a life! Sounds like nirvana to us. To register your team or for more information visit: www.womenscancerwalk.org.
